10 Steps to Achieve Success in Direct Selling/ Network Marketing

Direct Selling has produced some of the most amazing success stories in India and around the world.

 

Almost every Network Marketing company has its “rags to riches” stories of everyday people who went from humble beginnings to earning more monthly income than most salaried employees earn in a year. Direct Selling has emerged as the fairest opportunity in a democracy like India for an average person with minimal investment to become financially free.

But over the years, I have also explored the emotional aspect of doing a business that creates avenues to contribute to people’s lives a positive way, by helping them achieve financially what they never thought possible. There is unparalleled joy in watching someone’s dreams come true, especially if you have helped them attain them.

But there are challenges too. Building a large, exponentially growing network is not easy, but it’s definitely possible. By following a step-by-step system, you can achieve big and long-lasting success in Direct Selling/Network Marketing, if you have the correct attitude and mindset towards it. I am sharing with you some of the pro-tips I have religiously followed to succeed in this business.

  1. Own your Business: You are the CEO/ MD of your business, the Success of your Business lies upon you, how you think, know, learn and do your business. You have to develop the Businessman Attitude and Employer mentality. You should also make a commitment to your business in respect of time and effort.
  2. Think Long-Term: Direct Selling is not a ‘get rich quick’ scheme, but a ‘get rich system’ of business, if you are willing to work hard. By working part-time or full-time for 2 to 5 years, you can really build a lifetime of numerable passive income sources, leading to your final goal – financial security. There is no other business or profession that can be successfully built in a couple of months’ time with the same amount of time and effort you would put into Direct Selling. The inherent duplication system of a direct selling business model gives you exponential growth in the long run.
  3. Find your Real Purpose of entering into Direct Selling: You may want to buy your own house, you may want to save up for your future, or you may want to enjoy all the good things that life has to offer. Whatever your reason for entering the Direct selling market may be, do not lose sight of your vision- ever! WHY you want to get into Direct Selling should be clear before starting off. Begin with the end in mind, and always remind yourself that your WHY must be stronger than your fears.
  1. Develop the Right Attitudes, Habits, Values, and character: To become Successful in Direct Selling, it is crucial to develop certain basic attitudes, such as;
    1. positivity
    2. eagerness to learn
    3. hunger to win
    4. hard work
    5. consistency
    6. money mindedness
    7. integrity and ethics for goodwill

Gain extensive knowledge of the industry, company, and its products: In order to correctly identify the potential and the growth prospects of the industry/company, you must gather all the necessary know-how and information available in the market. This will greatly instill the confidence in you to start off (which is usually passed off as beginner’s luck!). Furthermore, a thorough knowledge of the company’s products will help you to approach people easily and start off a conversation to your advantage. Know the USP of each of your products and analyze how they would be beneficial to every person in some way or the other.
  1. Respect the system: There are only two ways of doing things – the right way and the wrong way. Yes, that’s true! And unsurprisingly, most people go about the business the wrong way. This mostly wastes their time and usually ends in failure. The right way of doing it is by following the step-by-step process of building the business. Rather than following a random, haphazard manner of direct selling, invest your time and effort in building and enhancing the already established system. This will ultimately accelerate your growth and ensure that the people you introduce into your network will be able to duplicate your success. This is a tried-and-tested way of putting you on the path to success in Direct Selling. These time-tested strategies can be easily learned from your uplines/ seniors or the Company Education System. People may fail, but the System does not. Hence it’s always beneficial to follow the successfully established system, rather than trying to create your own.
  2. Develop the right Skills: Most of the successful Direct Sellers are not borne but made. This they do by putting time and effort into developing the right set of skills as they go along; which mostly includes;
    • good communication skills
    • building lists
    • prospecting and inviting
    • planning
    • presentation skills
    • ability to open and close calls
    • handling rejections/failures
    • good leadership skills
    Learning these skills requires practice, just like learning to ride a bicycle. The more you practice the easier it becomes and more your skills are honed.
  3. Jot down a timely action plan: Invest your time in developing a weekly/ monthly plan of action and follow it to the core. Take guidance from seniors who are doing well in the business.
  4. Focus on achieving ranks: Concentrate your efforts on following the company’s ideal career chart or income plan to achieve the most desirable ranks in your company (In my case, I achieved the Diamond rank). Do your best to achieve it in the stipulated time frame.
  5. Take responsibility for yourself and for others in your team: Work hard to help your team achieve success, and take responsibility for their failures. Have a personal interest in increasing their income lines and their financial achievements.

These personally tried and tested steps are prerequisites for long term success in Direct Selling business. Whoever desires a better lifestyle should most definitely consider Direct Selling as a Career option, and developing these attributes will go a long way.
