6 Reasons Why Women Should Focus On Wealth Building Through Direct Selling/Network Marketing

I Believe That Women Today Owe It To Themselves To Learn To Build Their Own Wealth.

Financial independence for women is of critical importance today for many reasons. With changing times driven by many factors leading to uncertain futures, women are much more vulnerable financially than men. Hence, there is an urgent need for women to generate a steady flow of income for themselves that is not dependent on any other person. One of the most lucrative ways for women to enter the workforce is by way of Direct Selling or Network Marketing, also known as Multi-level Marketing (MLM).

Direct selling/Network marketing provides ample opportunities for both men and women to be financially successful. The ‘how to do’, or the fundamentals for direct selling/multi-level marketing(MLM)/ network marketing remain more or less the same for both men and women, but the ‘why to do’, i.e. the reasons for women to enter the arena are far more pressing than for men today.

There are 6 reasons why women need to focus on wealth building, as effectively highlighted in Robert T. Kiyosaki’s book, ‘The Business of the 21st century’.

1. The statistical parameters are largely against women

  1. Around 45% women over the age of 45 are single. In other words, they are financially responsible for themselves.
  2. Women’s retirement income is less than that of men. A woman is away from the work force an average of 15 years due to domestic and motherhood duties, as compared to men who are away for 2 years. This coupled with lower salaries received by women, reduces the retirement benefits for women to just 25 percent of an average male’s retirement benefit.
  3. Women are expected to live for an average of 7 to 10 years longer than men, which means they must provide for those extra years.
  4. Of the elderly living in poverty, 3 out of 4 are women.

This means that more women are not prepared to take care of themselves financially, especially as they grow older. In spending their entire lives to take care of their families, they usually overlook the job of providing for themselves.

2. A large number of women are financially dependent on men, without a backup plan

Most people don’t usually think of divorce when they get married. Neither do they anticipate the loss of a job when they start out to work. But the probability of such events occurring in our lives have increased by the day.

Women who are dependent on someone else for their financial security, need to rethink their situation. The option they are depending on may simply stop being available in the future. Hence, it is imperative to be well prepared in advance for any financial eventuality to avoid facing a hard, personal wake up call.

3. Women usually have to face the Glass Ceiling in many fields

Along with all the challenges faced by a corporate employee in a dynamic, corporate world, women still face one additional obstacle: a deep-rooted gender bias. Women with equal talent and competence as men are seen to climb the corporate ladder much slower than men. Re-entering the workforce at a later stage in their life becomes almost impossible for them.

However, in the world of Direct Selling/ Network Marketing/Multi-level marketing, this glass ceiling does not exist. The company does not care if you are a female or male, young or old, a college graduate or a high school drop-out. It only cares about your skills, your ability to perform and how diligently and effectively you build your multi-level network. Proof that women can truly thrive in this field is that there are four times as many women in Network Marketing as there as men.

4. Women receive lesser pay than men

Because of the glass ceiling and the still prevalent wage inequality between women and men in the job market, a woman is often limited in the amount of income she can make. Studies show that women with the same education and experience as their male counterparts earn about 26% less than their male peers. But a Direct Selling/ Network Marketing/Multi-level marketing business is fully scalable. Regardless of gender, in Direct Selling/ Network Marketing, the size of the income stream you can generate by building your network has no limit.

5. Women have lesser time to devote to regular jobs as well as domestic duties

As unfair as it may be, women are still majorly responsible for household duties in India. Women are required to play varied roles of mothers, wives, daughters, daughters-in-law, even when they are working. This leads to exhaustion and burn-out for women on a daily basis.

Therefore, wealth building for women is necessary so that they don’t need to depend on full time jobs to earn money. They can, instead, look at becoming a Direct Seller or Multi-level Network Marketer, which gives them full control of their time. Such a business can be done either part-time or full time, depending on one’s availability and convenience. It can be done from home on the phone/computer. It can be done on any day at anytime and anywhere. It is a business that can travel with you, that you can keep in your pocket, and that you can scale up as and when convenient.

6. All the above factors contribute to lowering women’s Self- Esteem

I believe that one of the greatest merits of a Direct Selling/ Network Marketing/ MLM business is that women can truly perform well in this field, which in turn boosts their confidence in their ability to provide for themselves. Wealth building and financial freedom enable women to spend money on themselves without being answerable to anyone.
